CBD and Skincare: Everything you Need to Know

Nurturing Your Complexion with CBD-Infused Skin Care

When you first began experimenting with the latest trends in skin care, it’s likely that each new purchase instilled a sense of hopeful anticipation. You may have eventually realized that you’ve been continuously experimenting with new products to offset the effects of others but remained optimistic. After a few years of spending a considerable portion of your beauty budget on formulations that seem to cause more skin issues than they solved, you may be hesitant to try anything new.

Here at BOTA™, we get it!

Your skepticism is understandable. Many of the thousands of skincare products promising to nurture, protect, and transform the appearance of your skin contain harsh chemicals that strip your skin’s protective barrier and inhibit its natural ability to replenish.

If you’ve been disappointed by your fair share of chemical-based skincare products that cause flaking, irritation, breakouts, or fail to live up to expectations, you might be toying with the idea of getting back to basics with natural skincare products. If you’re ready to make the switch, consider investing in plant-based skincare infused with the therapeutic potential of hemp-derived CBD.

How CBD Influences Skin Health and Appearance

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the 113+ compounds found in hemp plants. It’s a non-intoxicating cannabinoid that has the ability to act on cannabinoid receptors that are part of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Plant cannabinoids, also known as phytocannabinoids, bind with this system which helps regulate certain vital functions of the body, including sleep, appetite, immune, pleasure, pain, inflammation, and more!

When the ECS is in sync, the human body is able to achieve what is called homeostasis, which means your body is operating at optimal human performance.

In many ways, CBD-infused skincare products work just like any other CBD product, the tinctures, gummies, or capsules you might already be using. With plant-based CBD skincare, the therapeutic potential is delivered directly to receptors that may help influence the health and appearance of your skin.3

Answers to Important Questions About CBD Skin Care Products

Now that you know that natural CBD skincare products have the potential to make a significant impact on the health and appearance of your skin, it’s likely that you have some questions about CBD and CBD-infused skincare products. As always, BOTA is happy to help. Here are the answers to some of the common questions we’re asked by people interested in our plant-based CBD skincare line.

Where Does CBD Come From?

CBD is a non-intoxicating Cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. Although hemp and marijuana are both potential sources, most of the CBD products available to customers from specialty shops, retail establishments, and online contain CBD sourced from industrial hemp.

Before CBD can be used in skin care formulations, the cannabinoid-rich oil is extracted from the plant, much in the same manner as any other essential oil you may currently be using. To ensure the purity and potency of our hemp extract, we use only non-GMO industrial hemp grown using natural farming methods, and our products are third-party tested for purity and potency.

Do All Hemp-Based Skin Care Products Contain CBD?

No, many hemp-based skincare products contain no CBD at all. That’s why people interested in CBD skincare should understand that CBD (cannabidiol) is extracted from the flowers, stalks, and stems of the plant.

Although the oil cold-pressed from hemp seeds is often used in natural skincare products for its remarkable moisturizing properties, hemp seed oil does not contain CBD. Unfortunately, far too many companies are taking advantage of consumers interested in CBD by blurring the distinction between hemp oil and hemp seed oil.

You can protect yourself from purchasing misrepresent skincare products by knowing which part of the hemp plant the oil is extracted from and sticking with product manufacturers that specify the amount of CBD their products contain.

Will CBD Smooth Wrinkles?

Many of the visible signs of skin aging are the result of sun exposure, free radical damage, and collagen loss. Research suggests that natural CBD skincare products have many potential benefits for maturing skin, including its potential for balancing oil production, supporting the functions that regulate collagen production, and protecting skin from free-radical damage.1  Although CBD is not currently recommended as a cure or treatment for any known skin concerns, many people using CBD skincare products say they see improvements in the texture and tone of their skin.

Can CBD Help with Blemishes?

The oil produced in your skin has two main functions, to keep your skin hydrated and move dead skin cells up through your pores to the surface of your skin. Breakouts and flares are often caused by dead skin cells that fail to reach the surface and trap bacteria in your pores. The resulting inflammation affecting the appearance of your skin is evidence that your immune system is targeting (and healing) the infection.

Many conventional skincare products formulated to improve the health and appearance of blemish-prone skin contain harsh chemicals that strip the skin of its protective moisture barrier and cause unnecessary irritation. Since natural CBD skincare products have the potential to soothe skin irritation, many users found plant-based CBD skincare products provide a natural way for blemish prone skin to get the care it needs, without any of the harsh ingredients that might cause skin flares.

Enhancing the Potential Skin Benefits of CBD with Natural Botanicals

When hopeful anticipation for achieving skincare goals dissolves to hesitant skepticism, many people eventually tune out the empty promises made by the health and beauty industry in favor of natural, plant-based skincare. But far too many mistakenly believe that going natural means having to abandon any hope of achieving the “scientifically formulated” results they were hoping for.

If you’re concerned that natural skincare products might be too simple for your needs, you’ll be pleased to know that many of the chemicals used in today’s “latest scientific discoveries” are formulated to mimic the effects of natural botanicals. That means plant-based skincare can be just as effective as products created in the lab. You may even find you end up using fewer products while achieving better results.
