Our skin is the largest organ of our human body and can become damaged as we age. If you’re less than happy with the results of your current skincare routine, maybe it’s time to try a different approach. Skincare can seem overwhelming and complicated so we’ve put together a few steps to help you start building a skincare routine. For newbies and anyone looking to ensure they’re on the right track, here are some basic steps you can do to kickstart your daily skincare routine.
What Is the Benefit of Having a Skincare Routine?
A skincare routine can help you keep your skin healthy and clear as you age. While there’s no magic formula to keep your face from ever getting another pimple or black head, there are ways to reduce the chances. No matter what kind of skin you have, dry or oily or a combination of the two, a skincare routine can be beneficial to minimizing the aging process and having a healthy wellness routine. The trick is to find high-quality, effective skincare products that work for your skin type.
Building a Skincare Routine
Starting a new skincare routine can be confusing, and you may not know where to begin. One thing to know before you start is what kind of skin you have and if you don’t already know there are quizzes online or dermatologists that will help you figure it out. No matter the type of skin you have, the basic skincare steps to maintaining a routine will stay the same.
For those with dry skin, you may benefit from using products with natural oils. If you have oily skin, you can benefit from using skincare products with drying ingredients. Regardless of your skin, there are certain ingredients that you should commonly avoid in your routine such as parabens, phthalates, and fragrance.
Once you’ve determined the right skincare products, follow the steps below to develop your personal routine.
1. Cleanse Your Face
First, clean your face. You may clean your face one to two times a day, in the morning to prepare for your day and at night to get rid of any lingering filth acquired from the day. Depending on your skin’s dryness you may be worried about adding to the dryness if you wash your face more than once a day. In this case, you can rinse your face with water in the morning and skip to step 3.
2. Use a Toner
Toners can be applied up to twice daily for those with oily skin and is used to get an additional deep clean while tightening your pores. If your skin tends to be dry, try limiting the amount of toner applied to once or a couple of times a week. Try our BOTA™ Balancing Micellar Cleanser Toner for your skincare routine. The micellar ingredient is less drying than other toners and can be used daily.
You’ve cleaned, you’ve toned, now it’s time to moisturize your skin. Those with dry skin may be thinking, yes, I need to do this step. Those with oily skin may think it necessary to stay as far away from moisture as possible. Moisturizing is meant for everyone, no matter your skin type. If your skin is oily we recommend avoiding oil-based moisturizers. Our skin seeks moisture and there’s a moisturizer out there for you. Take a look at our BOTA™ skincare selection to explore what might work best for you.
4. Apply Sunscreen (in the morning)
Now that cleansing and moisturizing is done, your next step should be to protect your skin. Sunscreen aids in keeping our skin youthful and healthy by protecting from the harmful effects of the sun. If you wear foundation, sunscreen may be unnecessary because many foundations have SPF in it – check your product label to be sure. Sunscreen should be applied before starting your day, there’s no need to wear it to sleep.
These skincare steps can guide you along the path of healthy skin. If you run into questions, turn to an esthetician or a dermatologist who can help you make the right decisions for your skin-type. Check out BOTA™ for CBD skincare products to add into your daily skincare routine today.
